The Rent-uh (for James Brown)
Golden Shovel, after Langston Hughes’s “Little Lyric (Of Great Importance)”
I got an apartment in my twenties, wish- ing for help with the high-priced rent. Stayed broke, but I guess I was blessed ‘cause each month from heaven money was sent.
